Betty Marie Ross Lathrop died April 22, 2019, at Monroe Care Center, Albia, Iowa, surrounded by her loving family.\nBetty was born September 30, 1922, to Harry Frank and Catherine Mae (Green) Ross in Fort Morgan, Colorado. Betty graduated from Albia High School in 1940. After high school Betty worked for Raub Chevrolet in Albia, Albia Newspapers, served as Deputy Clerk of Court under Gertrude Larson, worked at the OPA Office in Ottumwa during World War II and Vaughn Chevrolet in Ottumwa. \nBetty married Estel Eugene Lathrop on September 11, 1949, at the First Christian Church in Albia. Two children were born to this union, Susan Marie and Dean Ross. Estel preceded Betty in death on October 24, 2001.\nBetty was a long time member of the First Christian Church, Woman's Club, Kendall Club, Hospital and Hospice Auxiliary, and the Dancin' Grannies. \nPreceding Betty in death were her husband, parents, grandparents and sister, Maxine.\nLeft to honor her memory are her daughter Susan Stearns and husband Tony of Woodburn, Iowa; son Dean Lathrop and wife Nathalie of Albia; two grandsons Michael Ross Lathrop and wife Jill and Chad Ross Lathrop of Albia; and three great grandchildren, Taegen and Luke Bossard and Jag Estel Lathrop. \nFuneral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, April 26, 2019 with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating at the First Christian Church in Albia. There will be funeral luncheon at the church followed by burial in White Oak Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., and Betty's family will be present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
