Catharine Brothers went to Heaven on April 2, 2023. She was born in Albia, Iowa to Mary (McCarty) and John Brothers on November 27, 1930. She was a lifelong resident of Albia and graduated from Albia High School. She started her first job at McLellan Store and was quickly promoted to the office where she found her love for numbers. Catharine began her professional career in 1952 as Monroe County Deputy Auditor. In 1985 she was elected Monroe County Auditor and held this position until her retirement in 1997.\n\nShe was a lifelong member of Saint Mary's Catholic Church and served on Parish Council and Altar and Rosary. She served on the Monroe County Arts Council and the Terrace Hill Society. She had a passion for art, antiques, and fine collectibles.\n\nCatharine was a proud and unwavering Republican. She enjoyed time with her circle of friends, especially game nights, and was adamant about keeping accurate scores. \n\nCatharine was an only child but blessed with a large circle of loving family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of Monroe Care Center. \n\nA Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 11, 2023 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia with Father Mark Yates C.PP.S. officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery followed by a luncheon at St. Mary's Catholic Church. A rosary will be recited by St. Mary's Altar and Rosary at 9:30 a.m., followed by visitation until service time at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Albia also on Tuesday. Memorial contributions can be made directly to Saint Mary's Catholic Church in Catharine's memory.
