Charles "Chuck" Robert Downey, age 72, of Blakesburg, IA passed away on December 23, 2022. \n\nVisitation will be held on Thursday, December 29, 2022 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia, opening to the public at 3:00 p.m., with Chuck's family present to greet friends from 4-7 p.m., Thursday evening. Memorials may be directed to the family. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com or the Sinnott Funeral Home Facebook page. \n\nChuck was born on June 5, 1950 in Sioux City, IA to William Andrew and Helen Elizabeth (Ferris) Downey. He graduated from Marcus High School, class of 1968. He received his bachelor's degree in Animal Science from Iowa State University and he was on the Iowa State Livestock Judging Team. He was also enlisted with the Air Force Guard during this time. \n\nChuck was a cattleman with a great eye for the quality and performance of cattle. He grew up raising cattle and also showing 4H calves. Chuck cherished the time helping his daughter, Jennifer show cattle. He also showed cattle in the Denver Stock Show and the Aksarben Stock Show & Rodeo. He would help anyone needing a hand, no matter the circumstance, and never had a negative word to say about anyone. Chuck had many true friends who were there for him when he needed help. True friends make you wealthy. Chuck loved telling and listening to stories. He was gifted with the timing and art of telling a joke. He was a kind and very hardworking man. Chuck was so proud of his daughter, Jennifer, and granddaughter, Brynn. \n\nSurvivors include his daughter Jennifer (Tre Chandler) of Ottumwa; granddaughter, Brynn Chandler of Ottumwa; three sisters, Mary (John) Dixson of Newell, SD, Jean (Jeff) Addison of Pierson, IA, Kathy Bauermeister of Sioux City, IA; brother, John Downey of Pierson, IA; nieces and nephews, Josh (Alli Allmon Dixson) Dixson, Abby (Nick) Ritze, Jesse (Britt) Addison, Jill (Joe) Wilcox, Saylor Bauermeister; great nieces and nephews, Finn & Maggie Allmon Dixson, Blake, Emily & Hailey Ritze, Elliot Addison, and George Wilcox. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Helen Downey.
