Cynthia Grinstead

–

Albia, Iowa

Cynthia Kay Grinstead, born on February 26, 1953, in Ottumwa, IA, was a beacon of light to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Cynthia was a woman of exceptional character - reliable, generous, humble, and above all, funny. She was the glue that bonded her family and was always there to lend a helping hand.

Cynthia lived in Albia, Iowa for the past four years, but prior to that lived in Ottumwa, her birthplace. She was a graduate of Moravia Community School before going to nursing school. She dedicated her life to caring for others as a Registered Nurse at St. Joseph Hospital and Ottumwa Regional Hospital until her retirement in 2010. Cynthia's commitment to her work was nothing short of inspirational, and her warm, compassionate nature was a comfort to all her patients. She was not just a nurse. She was a friend, a confidante, and an angel in scrubs, bringing light and hope into every hospital room she entered. In her spare time, Cynthia was an avid reader and enjoyed puzzles. Her love for literature was as profound as her love for her family - both passions she nurtured with equal dedication.

Cynthia was never married, but she was far from alone. She leaves behind a heartbroken family who cherished her deeply: her brothers Larry (Marla), Mike (Linda), Chris (Susie), and Jim (LeAnn) her sister Janice Mefford and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Cindy was loved by all her family members and others and was well known for her heart of gold and great sense of humor. Cynthia was preceded in death by her beloved parents, R. Dean and H. Lucille Grinstead. She was the embodiment of family values, demonstrating through her actions that "Family is not an important thing. It's everything."

Cynthia will always be remembered for her radiant smile, her generous spirit, and her unyielding dedication to her family and her patients. After her Mother’s death, Cindy became a second mother to her younger brothers, Chris and Jim. When her Father went on hospice, she became his caretaker for over two years. Her absence will be deeply felt, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved her.

Cremation has been accorded with inurnment in Shaul Cemetery in Ottumwa.
