Dateline: Albia Dennis Gene Perkins, age 72, of Albia, Iowa died on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at his residence in Albia. He was born on March 3, 1942 to Hubert and Virginia (Brittain) Perkins in Glenwood, Iowa. He married Barbara Squires and they had two children, Randall, and Teresa. He later married Rita Rice and they had four children, Melaney, Sheila, Benjamin, and Rebecca. Dennis was enlisted with the United States Army during in the Viet Nam War. He drove truck and hauled hay, tried his hand at farming, did mechanic work, and 'junked' cars. Dennis had a quick wit but was slow to speak. He was a private person that mostly kept to himself. He enjoyed playing cards, being outdoors, riding and tinkering with Harley Davidson motorcycles, and country music. He is survived by his children, Randall Gene Perkins of Des Moines, Teresa (Joe) Janikie of Michigan, Melaney Jo (Brian) Reeg of Columbus, NE, Sheila Marie Perkins of Lincoln, NE, Benjamin Dennis (Dulsey) Perkins of Mountain Lake, MN, Rebecca Lee Ann (Brett) Manak of Columbus, NE, 20 grandchildren, 4 great grandchild and another on the way, and one brother, Gary Perkins. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sandra. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, October 3, 2014 at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Benjamin Dennis Perkins officiating. Military rites will be conducted after services by American Legion of Albia, Melrose, and Lovilia. Visitation will be on Friday one hour prior to services. Memorials may be directed to the family.
