DeWayne Eugene Allison, age 83, of Lovilia, passed away on Friday, May 20, 2022 at his home, under the care of EveryStep Hospice. \n\nFuneral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2022 with Pastor Randy Beary officiating at Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel in Lovilia. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2022, opening to the public at 2:00 p.m., with DeWayne's family present to greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Tuesday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel in Lovilia. Memorials may be directed to EveryStep Hospice or St. Jude's Children's Hospital. Online condolences may be left for the family at sinnottfuneralhome.com or the Sinnott Funeral Home Facebook page. \n\nOn December 21, 1938, Dewayne was born to John R. and Evelyn (Robeson) Allison in Lovilia. He grew up attending Bussey School and then graduated from Lovilia High School. DeWayne met Carol Waters while attending Lovilia High School, and they were united in marriage on May 16, 1957. They just recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. \n\nDeWayne and Carol then moved to Des Moines, where he started working at Hoxie Fruit Company as a manager. During their time living in Des Moines, DeWayne and Carol welcomed their three sons; Dale, Scott, and Bruce. \n\nIn 1966, DeWayne decided to start his trucking career, which resulted in moving back to Lovilia with his family. DeWayne started hauling coal and became an owner/operator for Foodliner in Eddyville. While trucking, DeWayne raised cattle on his farm, until he retired from Foodliner after 30 years. \n\nDeWayne enjoyed working on his farm, wintering in Arizona, and spending time with family. \n\nSurvivors include his wife of 65 years, Carol; his sons, Scott Allison of Lovilia, Bruce Allison of Knoxville; his grandchildren, Andrea Allison of Pella, Ashley (TJ) Peterson of Lovilia, Justin Allison of Crawfordsville, Emma and Brandon Allison of Ankeny; his great-grandson, Liam Peterson of Lovilia; sister, Sharon (Lyle) Kumer of Lovilia; sister-in-law, Phyllis Dunkin of Lovilia; brothers-in-law, Eugene (Marge) Waters of Muscatine and Mark (Joyce) Waters of Des Moines. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and good friends. \n\nDeWayne is preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Evelyn; parents-in-law, Harold and Frances Waters; son, Dale Allison; granddaughter, Kayla Allison; siblings-in-law, Jim Kendall, John Waters, Tom Dunkin, and Iola (Gene) Gladfelder. \n\nSpecial thank you to Dr. Gerald L.
