Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Dorothy May Bates\n\r\n\t\t\t\tDorothy May Bates, age 82, of Winterset, formerly of Albia, died on Tuesday evening, October 25, 2016 at her daughter's residence in Winterset, with her loving family by her side. She was born on February 2, 1934 in Russell, Iowa to Charles and Myrtle (McVey) Cross.She graduated from Moravia High School. She married Kenneth Elvin Bates on July 4, 1953 at the Methodist Church in Albia. They were blessed with two children: Debra and Rick. She worked as a Nurses Aid and Activity Director. Her employment included the Albia Hospital, Albia Manor, and fifteen years at Oakwood Estates. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, and especially tending to her flowers. Dorothy is survived by her children, Debra D. Field and Mike of Winterset, Rick (Mary) Bates of New Virginia, grandchildren, Jennifer N. Brown, Toni D. Mincey, Wayne C. Field; almost grandchildren, Jennifer Green, Dustin Green, Samantha Green; great grandchildren, Nerriah Morrison, Dakota Morrison, Kalae Brown, Traevios Brown, Beth Mincey, Andy Mincey, Zach Mincey, Keirsten Mincey, Kaleb Mincey. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Myrtle Cross, husband, Kenneth Bates, and brother, Charles Cross. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 29, 2016 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating. Visitation will be held on Friday, October 28, 2016, opening to the public at 1:00 p.m., with family being present from 6-8 p.m. Friday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
