She was born the third child of four on March 28, 1927 in Galesburg, IL to Herbert Lee and Carabelle (Drum) Sherman. After school, Dorothy attended Knox College in Galesburg and the Brown Business Institute. She was employed by Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Galesburg until her marriage. She married Leroy Hogeland on December 1, 1962 at the Congregational Church in Galesburg, IL. They were blessed with three children: Andrea, Alicia, and John. She loved to cook, bake, paint, and read (especially British literature.) She was famous for her home-made pies, baking favorites for each of her children and her many hungry nephews and was infamous for her pot roast. Lynn loved fall and the first snows of the winter season. She enjoyed the flowers, birds, and walks on the family farm that had become part of her life. She was always excited about Christmas and never gave up on the Chicago Cubs. Lynn took great joy in life and always seemed younger than her years. Her intelligence and her never ending love and compassion will be sorely missed by her family and those who knew her. She is survived by her husband Leroy of Lovilia, her children, Andrea (Jeff Dietrich) Hogeland of Lovilia, Alicia (Bruce) Sutton of Moline, IL, John (Beth Hoffman) Hogeland of San Francisco, CA; and five grandchildren, Jacob, Antonio, Bree, Lucas and Griffin. Also honoring her memory are the many nephews and nieces who have always been important to her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, and her siblings, H.L. (Bud) Sherman, Beverly Austin, and Don Sherman. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, June 14, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Lovilia United Methodist Church with Rev. Raymond Doser officiating.
