Elizabeth Ann "Bettie" Jones, 67, of Rose Hill passed away on Monday, August 5, 2019 at her home. Bettie was born on February 20, 1952 to LeRoy and Edith (Adam) Hammes in Sigourney, Iowa. Bettie graduated from Sigourney High School class of 1970. She attended Capri Cosmetology in Fairfied. She worked various jobs for a short time until taking a position as a cook and dietary at the New Sharon (Northern Mahaska) Nursing Home where she was employed for 28 years. Elizabeth then worked at Seneca Agency on the Aging for 6 years part-time in the kitchen before fully retiring in 2016. On June 1, 1972, she married Nathan Jones in Delta, Iowa. To this union two daughters were born, Maureen Kay and Faith Ann. After 25 years of marriage, Bettie and Nate divorced but remained friends and in contact. \nBettie was an fiery independent little red head with a driven spirit. She would tell it the way it was but always with kindness. Her smile and quick witted humor lit up a room. Bettie had a huge heart and she would give anything to a family member,friend or dog that needed it. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, feeding the birds, fishing in Maine, talking to her "neighbors" and friends across town and especially spoiling her dogs, Moochie and Luci (Rascal). Elizabeth "Bettie" was a member of the VFW Auxiliary CC Cook Post #2237. Those who are left to cherish her memory are her mother Edith Hammes-Warnick, daughter Maureen Jones(Kennie Allison), grandchildren: Trevor Straube, Dakota Straube, Abbigail (Taylor) Steel,Sarah AlMunajed and Maleea Straube of Iowa and twin granddaughters Tala and Yara AlMunajed of Damascus, Syria, also a future grandson-in-law Robert Dannels and a great granddaughter Ember Rose Steel, both of Iowa; siblings: Patrick (Merry) Hammes, Patrick (Ann) Bombei, Cheryl (Donald) Bird, Harry Hammes, LeRoy (Lori) Hammes, Charlene (Carl) Unkel, Peter (Patty) Hammes, Mark (Tracy) Hammes, Daniel Hammes, DeAnna (Charles) Montgomery and Ray Robles, former son-in-law Qusai Almunajed of Syria and many nieces, nephews and others who loved her. She was preceeded in death by her daughter Faith Ann Jones AlMunajed on September 21, 2012, her father LeRoy Walter Hammes, her brother, Edward Howard Hammes, a step-father Leo Warnick and her two dog children, Buddy and Daisy.\nAs Elizabeth's wishes, she has been cremated with Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. There will be a Celebration of Life with family to greet visitors at Rose Hill Community Center on Saturday, August 17th, 2019 between the hours of 1-4.
