Heather Marie Gilbert Pettyjohn

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Heather Marie Gilbert Pettyjohn, age 39, a loving and devoted daughter, granddaughter, sister, mother and grandmother, and a friend to all whose lives she touched. She left us on December 31, 2023. She was born on April 7, 1984, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Mike Gilbert and Carman Withrow.

Heather graduated from Albia High School, class of 2002. She was a funny and loving person, her witty nature would always light up the room and she greeted everyone with a smile. Heather’s love for the outdoors was unmatched, and she took great pleasure in attending music concerts, proudly declaring herself a "Swiftie". What mattered most to her, however, was her family. Heather was a dedicated mother to her daughter and two boys and a doting grandmother to her granddaughter, Vada. She cherished taking her boys to the pool and reveled in the joy of being a grandma. Her jovial nature and infectious laughter will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Heather is survived by her daughter, Mackynzie French & (Tyler DeBrouse); sons, Carter and Kelby Pettyjohn; granddaughter, Vada DeBrouse; special friend, Kevin Bonnett; mother, Carman Withrow; paternal grandmother, Bonnie Gilbert; maternal grandmother, Donna Dromey; siblings, Gabe (Tiffany) Gilbert, Shanna (Nick) Floden, Tatum Gilbert, Landon Main, and many aunts, uncles, a niece, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Mike Gilbert; paternal grandfather, George Gilbert; maternal grandfather, Bill Withrow, and uncle, Bud Withrow.

A visitation for Heather will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Sinnott Funeral Home, Gilbert Chapel located at 1904 N E Ave, Lovilia, Iowa, 50150. The funeral service, celebrating Heather's life, will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the same venue. Interment will follow services in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia. Memorials may be directed to the family.
