Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Jack Shelford\n\r\n\t\t\t\tJack Dale Shelford, age 79, of Lovilia, died Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at his residence in Lovilia, under the care of Hospice of Monroe County. He was born on September 7, 1932 in Melcher, Iowa to Rube and Minnie (Lemonds) Shelford. He graduated from Lovilia High School. He then enlisted in the United States Army in 1952. He was a Prison Guard at Fort Leavenworth, KA, and also was a Dog Trainer at Fort Carson, CO. He also married Doris Baker in 1952, and they were blessed with four boys: Steve, Greg, Tony, and Michael. Jack worked for John Morrells for twenty-two years, and Albia Rural Electric, retiring in 1984. He married Donna Slofkosky in 1981. Jack was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lovilia. He was also a member of American Legion Howard Cessna Post 136 of Albia. He was an avid outdoorsmen. He is survived by his wife, Donna of Lovilia, son, Greg (Holly) Shelford of Knoxville, two grandchildren, KayLee and Ross of Knoxville, five step children, Tom (Melissa) Slofkosky of Liberty, MO, Debbie Peterson of Albia, Bill Slofkosky of Lovilia, Diane (Bill) Murray of Iowa City, Kim (Mark) Murphy of Albia, one brother, Don Shelford of Lovilia, thirteen step grandchildren, four step great grandchildren, and many family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Doris, three children: Steve, Tony, Michael, one brother Dean Shelford, and one sister Joan Loncarich. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, July 27, 2012 at the St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lovilia with Father Patrick Lumsden officiating. Jacks body will be cremated following services and burial of remains will be at a later date. Military rites will be conducted following mass outside of church by American Legions of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose. Visitation will open to the public at 11 am on Thursday with Jack's family being present from 6-8 pm Thursday evening at the Sinnott Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lovilia. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home Thursday evening in Lovilia. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hospice of Monroe County.
