Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Jack D. Stubbs\n\r\n\t\t\t\tJack Dean Stubbs, age 94, of Ottumwa, passed away on January 15, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice. He was born on May 20, 1923 in Sac City, Iowa. Jack was born Jack Dean Young, to parents Howard and Elsie May Young. His mother died soon after his birth. He was adopted as an infant by Harlan Lester Stubbs and Laura Ann Stubbs, who gave him their surname. He was always grateful to his biological father who, after Jack's birth mother died, placed him with adoptive parents who loved him unconditionally.He married Jean Avis Losure on December 24, 1943. He served in the United States Navy during WW2, February 25, 1944 through January 26, 1946, attaining the rank of Coxwain. He was proud of his military service during the war in the Pacific, including assaults on several Japanese held islands.Jack's military training led him to a career as an electrician, but he was talented with all types of construction. He taught his children and grandchildren skills in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and cabinetry through many home improvement projects. He loved taking things apart to try to fix them.He loved the outdoors, and feeding wildlife, especially birds, was a lifelong interest. He loved feeding squirrels and baby raccoons bread by hand with a door cracked open, a habit that made the entire family nervous. Then he would build any number of contraptions to keep those same squirrels and raccoons out of his bird feeders.Jack and Jean loved to travel, covering most of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, and much of Europe as well.He is fondly remembered by his family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean and daughter, Jacklynn KastendieckSurvivors include his son, Ricky; grandchildren, Adam and Ryan Kastendieck, Michelle Godefroid and Robert Stubbs; and son-in-law Steven Kastendieck.Jack's body has been cremated and inurnment will take place in the Spring in Oakland Cemetery in Sac City, Iowa.
