John Paul LaPoint, died on May 27, 2021 at his sister's home in rural Hedrick, IA. He was born June 24, 1942 to Paul and Juanita LaPoint in Ottumwa Iowa. John graduated from Ottumwa High School, class of 1960. He served with the Army, with service in South Korea. He loved watching Nascar races and watching the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals. \n\nSurviving are 2 sons, Brent and Terry and 2 daughters, Lori and Tracy, 5 grandchildren. Also surviving are three sisters, Glenda (Grady) Stephens of Gilbert LA, Vi LaPoint, of Eldon MO, and Willa (Ron) Stanley of Hedrick IA, sisters-in-law, Margaret LaPoint and Christena LaPoint. Preceding him in death are his parents, sisters Marilyn and her husband Don McLaughlin and Jerri LaPoint, and brothers, Howard and Richard LaPoint. As per John's wishes he was cremated. \n\nInurnment will take place in Ottumwa Cemetery at a later date with military rites conducted by Walter Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion of Ottumwa. Memorials may directed to Good Samaritan Hospice of Ottumwa. Services are entrusted to Sinnott Funeral Home in Ottumwa.
