John Stringer

John Stringer Jr., age 64, of Centerville died on Sunday, July 3, 2016 at his residence in Centerville. He was born on May 8, 1952 in Des Moines, Iowa to John Sr. and Beverly (Matheson) Stringer. He enlisted with the United States Army in 1970. He then married Carol Bengford on October 19, 1974 in Algona, Iowa. They later divorced. He enjoyed rock hunting, fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post No. 0729. He loved spending time with his family, especially during the holidays. He is survived by his children: Tina (Joe) Nelson of Michigan, Jenny Stringer of Centerville, Samantha (Michael) Gilbert of Albia, and dog and best friend, Brutis; grandchildren, Melissa Seiler Cole, Michael Seiler, Miranda Seiler, Rachel Branson, Charlea West, Joseph Yearns, Sapphire Yearns, Taylor Lackore, Lincoln Gilbert, Lucy Gilbert, and four great grandchildren; siblings, Cindy, Bill, and Betty; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Jim Stringer. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia with military rites following at the funeral home. Visitation will also be on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
