John Henry Van Weelden, age 78, passed away on December 22, 2020 at home, surrounded by family. He was born June 3, 1942 in Lacey, Iowa to John and Cornelia "Kay" Van Weelden.\n\nLike his savior, he was a carpenter his entire life and preached the word of God for over 45 years, serving his congregation at Brushy Community Church, for the past 20 years.\n\nHe was a life-long musician with a love for singing. He played both piano and guitar and he routinely performed publicly, leading worship or promoting fellowship. He was a master woodworker who crafted everything from cabinetry to custom birdhouses, which he often made for charity donations. He enjoyed getting outdoors to golf or go fishing, he was also an avid storyteller and loved little more than socializing with friends over coffee.\n\nHe is survived by his wife, Pat Van Weelden of Albia, Iowa; his children, Lana (Van Weelden) Schippers of Des Moines, Brent and Jody Van Weelden of Bussey, Vince and Shelly Van Weelden of Cody, WY, Denny and Lysa Ransom of Carlisle; Brothers and sisters and their spouses, Casey and Esther Van Weelden of Pella, Alida Van Weelden of Asheville, NC, Janice, and Al Rozenboom of Cutlerville, MI, and Lola Van Weelden (Wife of Leroy) of Osage Beach, MO; Grandkids, Eddie, Sabrina, Anastacia, Amber, Tyler, Cody, Jake, Jacob, Noah and Great grandkids, Logan, Kayden, Kassandra, Kaylie, Johnathon, Lilly, Domenico, Richard\n\nHe was preceded by both parents, John and Cornilea "Kay" Van Weelden, his brother Leroy Van Weelden, infant sister Joan Elizabeth, and his son Chad Van Weelden.\n\nCelebration of Life Services will be held at a later date.
