Bussey, Iowa
It is with a heavy heart we announce the passing of Katherine Evalee Thomas on May 17, 2024. Born on December 12, 1938, Katherine spent her vibrant years enriching the lives of others with her warm and loving presence. A resident of Bussey, Iowa, for 12 years, she became a cherished member of the community, known for her infectious laughter and her ability to touch hearts. As Robert Louis Stevenson once said, "To be what we are, and to become what we are capable of becoming, is the only end of life." Katherine embodied this spirit throughout her life, making the most of every moment and inspiring others to do the same.
Katherine was a master of the culinary arts, dedicating her professional life to the food service industry. She retired from Roseaurs in Spokane Valley, WA, in 2001, leaving behind a legacy of delicious meals and unforgettable dining experiences. Her passion for cooking did not end with her professional career. She was always the heart of family gatherings, her lovingly prepared meals serving as the backdrop for many cherished memories. Her dishes were not just food but expressions of her love for her family and friends.
Katherine's loving spirit lives on in her surviving family members: her son, Joseph (Tammie) Thomas; daughters, Dorothy (Ron) Curtis; her grandchildren, Shantelle (TJ) Markley and Makinzee (Evan) Heitman; her great-grandson, Draeger Markley; her sister, Beverly Hugen; and her brother, Wendall (Linda) Dunkin. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, Harlan Dunkin and Dorothy Samuelson, and her children, James Thomas, Douglas Thomas, and Katherine Thomas, and her brother, Lowell (Beverly) Dunkin.
Katherine’s wishes were to be cremated with no formal services. Memorials may be directed to the family. Sinnott Funeral Home was entrusted with services.
May her life continue to inspire us to live with courage, love with passion, and make every moment count. In honor of Katherine's life, we encourage you to leave your memories and upload photos to the memorial page. Your stories and pictures will serve as lasting tributes to a life beautifully lived and a woman who will be dearly missed.
