Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Larry Emmett Derby\n\r\n\t\t\t\tLarry Emmett Derby, age 77 of Albia died on Thursday evening, October 22, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. He was born on February 19, 1938 at his home in Franklin Township in Monroe County to Emmett Silas and Rosie Ellen (Murphy) Derby. He graduated from Albia High School, class of 1955. He then went to Centerville Community College and became a teacher. He married Mardeena Carolyn Hiatt on August 18, 1957 at the EUB Church in Moravia. Larry taught in Keota for two years, and then went to work for the VA Hospital as a Nurses Aid for five years. The night shift was taking away from his family life which he so cherished, so he decided to become a Dairy Farmer, which he did for twenty-seven years. He was a Farm Bureau member for many years, and was a trustee of the Salem and Iconium Cemeteries. He enjoyed collecting all sorts of antiques, and especially enjoyed time spent with family, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and his dog Mitzi. He is survived by his wife Mardeena of Albia; children, Maureen (Brian) Hunt of Bussey, Mark (Julie) Derby of Pleasantville, Melanie (Mike) Haywood of Albia, Max (Diane) Derby of Gilman; fourteen grandchildren, Eric and Chad Coalbank, Chelsea, Emily, Tytus Hunt, Danny, Scott, Kyle Yarkosky, Eric Haywood, Kacie Schachtner, Nick Derby, Tara Hoeksema, Josh and Kyle Clark; nine great grandchildren, Kate Coalbank, Ty and Kaylee Coalbank, Kaydin Fee, Ari Haywood, Ethan and Alyona Hoeksema, Alexis and Kahlyr Clark. He is also survived by his siblings, Karen Morrow of Pleasant Hill, Monte (Toni) Derby of Ottumwa, Rita Clark of Coralville, and his dog Mitzi. He is preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held onTuesday, October 27, 2015 at 10:30 am with Pastor Lynda Carlson officiating at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia, 2030 Hwy 5, Albia, Iowa 52531. Burial will follow services in Hillcrest Cemetery in Moravia. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 26, 2015, opening to the public at 1:00 pm and family being present from 6-8 pm at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
