Leland "Lee" Charles DeMoss, age 82, of Ottumwa, passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2020 at his residence. He was born on January 26, 1938 in Monroe County to Freddie Charles and Vada Mae (Lancial) DeMoss. \n\nHe graduated from Albia High School, class of 1956, and received his masters degree in art from Drake University. After college he moved back to Ottumwa and was the art teacher at Ottumwa High School until his retirement. He later became an instructor at Indian Hills Community College. He married Marthann Mahin, and they were blessed with three children, Cara, Julie, and Brian. \n\nHe enjoyed woodworking, making furniture, working in his shop fixing odds and ends, drawing, metal working, cursing telemarketers, and watching dogs out his front picture window. \n\nLeland is survived by two children, Julie DeMoss of Des Moines, Brian (Nancy) DeMoss of Ottumwa; son-in-law, Dr. Christian Sharp of Glendale, CA; six grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Charles, Samantha, Gordon, Spencer, and Wyatt, cousin, Pat Patterson, of Webster City; three cats and a Basset Hound. He was preceded in death by his parents, Freddie and Vada DeMoss; wife, Marthann, daughter, Cara Sharp, and many beloved pets. \n\nLeland's body has been cremated with no public services per his wishes, and private family services will be held.
