Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Lucile Flahive\n\r\n\t\t\t\tLucile Mae Flahive, our beloved Mother, Sister, Grandma, and Great-Grandma, passed away April 30, 2012 at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, due to congestive heart failure. She was born to Matthew C. Wright and Evangeline L. (Johnson) Wright on October 18, 1927. Lucile graduated Lovilia High School, where she was a star basketball player. In May 1946, she married Edward Joseph Flahive, and together they raised their family in Lovilia. Lucile retired as a secretary for the Albia Community School District in 1985. She cherished the memories of the many young students she came into contact with during her working years. After Edward's death in 1983, she enjoyed four years of traveling with her special friend, Byron VerSteegh, living in Texas, Wisconsin and Sully, Iowa, until his death in 1990. In 1990, she moved back to Lovilia where she resided until 2005. Due to failing health, she moved to West Des Moines to live with her daughter and son-in-law, where she resided until moving to Taylor House April 19th. Lucile is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Daniel "Joe" (Wanda) Flahive of Lovilia, daughters, Denise (Larry) Blunt of Waco, TX, and Deana (David) Mahedy of West Des Moines. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, brother, Harold (Ann) Wright, sister Lillian Lennie, and many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ed, daughters, Diane and Donna, sisters, Arlene Smith and Dorothy Chidester, brother Virgil Wright, and special friend Byron VerSteegh. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am on Friday, May 4, 2012 at St. Peter's Catholic Church in Lovilia with Father Patrick Lumsden officiating. Burial will follow services in St. Peter's Cemetery in Lovilia. Visitation will open to the public at 1:00 pm on Thursday with Lucile's family being present from 6-8 pm Thursday evening at the funeral home in Lovilia. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 7:00 pm at the funeral home on Thursday. The family would like to thank Iowa Health Hospice staff, especially Dr. David Nordstrom, Laura Morehead and Shannon Pohllman, for their compassionate care and support during Mother's illness.
