Phillip Dean Hughes, age 58, of Lovilia, passed away on October 6, 2021 at University Hospital in Columbia, MO. He was born on July 21, 1963 in Albia, IA to William and Phyllis (Foster) Hughes. \n\nPhil was a graduate of Eddyville High School in 1981. He married Valerie Stanfield on July 17, 2010. He worked at Ajinomoto since 1993, previously for Southern Iowa Mechanical, currently for Winger as a welder. In Phil's younger years, he enjoyed trapping, fishing, hunting, and riding motorcycles. He was a hard worker who could build anything. He tinkered with many things, was a man of all trades, and enjoyed chainsaw art. He studied God's word, liked lending a helping hand, and was considered by his family to be a big GOOF! \n\nPhil is survived by his wife Valerie; children, Tony (Rachael) Hughes, Shayne (Kari) Hughes, Stacy (Harold) Lear, Heather Hughes, Jo Laugerman; siblings, Paul (Pam) Hughes, Jim (Peggy) Hughes, sixteen grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Phyllis Hughes, brother, Howard, and niece, Amy Pettyjohn. \n\nFuneral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 13, 2021 at the First Christian Church of Eddyville with Pastor Nick Hughes and Pastor Paul Hughes officiating. Military rites by American Legion of Albia, Lovilia, and Melrose will be conducted following services. Phil's body will be cremated following services. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 12, 2021, opening to the public at 2:00 p.m., with Phil's family present to greet friends from 5-8 p.m. at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia.
