Obituary for \r\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t Richard Maddy\n\r\n\t\t\t\tRichard Maddy, age 87, died Tuesday February 28, 2017 at Oakwood Specialty Care in Albia, Iowa. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 2, 2017, opening to the public at 2:00 p.m., and Richard's family will be present from 5-7 p.m., Thursday evening at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 3, 2017, at 10:00 a.m., with Suzanne Rider officiating at Sinnott Funeral Home in Albia. Burial with military rites by the American Legion of Albia, Melrose, and Lovilia will be at Union Chapel Cemetery. Memorials may be made to American Legion Howard Cessna Post #136 or Welcome Home Soldier.The son of Carl and Jenny (Davis) Maddy, Richard was born January 13, 1930, near Weller, IA. He grew up on a farm near Weller and graduated in 1947 from Lovilia High School. He played basketball for the Lovilia Lions. He served in United States Air Force and was stationed in Japan during the Korean conflict as a military policeman.He was married to Lois Clark on June 11, 1955, in Albia, IA. The couple first lived in Albia, and welcomed three sons to their family - Michael, Max, and Mark. Richard owned and operated the Conoco gas station in Albia with his brother Ben. The family later moved north of town where Richard farmed while working at the Knoxville VA as a warehouseman until retiring in 1985. He then farmed full-time until his death.Richard enjoyed boating with his family, going on car rides, hunting for mushrooms, and watching for wildlife. He introduced boating and camping to the family, and they enjoy these activities to this day. He was always proud of his garden and raised the best tasting sweet corn around.Richard is survived by his wife, Lois, and the families of their three sons: Michael and his children Millie, Michael, and Perry; Max (Diane), their children Suzanne (Deke) and her children Lia and Isaac, and Brian (Teresa) and their children Maya and Mitchell; and Mark (Jodi) and their daughter Maria, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Russell, Ben, David, and Wayne, a granddaughter Kaylea, and a daughter-in-law Apryle..
