Jim Cutsforth, Jr.
Funeral Directors Assistant
I was born and raised in Calmar, Iowa. I graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1965. In the fall of 1965, I enlisted in the US Army, serving one year active duty in Vietnam, and awarded the Purple Heart. On return home, I completed a Business/Accounting course at Northeast Iowa Area Community College in Clamar, and I began employment with Thorp Financial Services in their office in Oelwein, Iowa. On April 3, 1970, I married Phyllis Sharp of Decorah, Iowa, and to this union three sons were born and raised.
In May of 1970 , Thorp transferred me to their office in Austin, MN. In 1972, I was transferred to Crookston, MN. My family and I spent the next seventeen years in various cities in Minnesota. I left Thorp and worked of the First Bank Systems, then ended up in Willmar as Finance Manager at Roth Chevrolet/Mazda. In August of 1986, my family and I moved to Ottumwa, IA, where I worked as Finance Manager of rGlover Ford. I left there and worked for Vaughn Chevrolet. I left Vaughn’s and found employment at Cargill Meat Solutions and retired after fifteen years.
My family and I have been very active and faithful members of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church since moving here in 1986. I am a member of and active in the Knights of Columbus here in Ottumwa, having been past Grand Knight and current Faithful Navigator of the 4th Degree, and also past Club Manager.
I currently volunteer at the Milestones Area Agency on aging meal site at Trinity Episcopal Church. Working and visiting with other seniors is a very rewarding experience.
My other interns lie in attending my grandchildren’s various activities, and I’m currently setting up a model train table….
